Every year, the Geological Society of America (GSA) organizes manifold conferences, including exciting annual and section meetings. „GSA Connects“ is one of the annual meetings and this year it was hosted at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, from October 17-22 (2025). This premier annual gathering of the GSA offered an incredible opportunity to explore groundbreaking research, discuss emerging trends, and engage with experts shaping the future of geoscience.
This global scientific society has members from academia, government, and industry in more than 100 countries. The extensive program featured technical sessions, hands-on workshops, stimulating keynote presentations, and field trips to some of the most fascinating geological sites in the region. In over 200 dynamic geoscientific sessions, researchers at all career levels presented and discussed new discoveries, encouraged cooperative research and fostered public dialogue on geoscience issues. In the vibrant exhibit hall, industry leaders showcased cutting-edge technologies, innovations, and products designed to advance the geoscience field.
For the first time, the Madygen Geopark was also represented at this large, global conference. For a whole day, we taught people about the diverse geology along with its unique fossil sites preserved in Madygen. Our mission to raise attention to this fascinating and underrepresented place of geoheritage, was accomplished as we shared past results, ongoing research and invited scientists across the world to come and see for themselves.

We are looking forward to many more scientific conferences around the world and making Madygen the famous place it deserves to be. Ultimately, this will also help the Kyrgyz people by giving them a voice amongst the big global players, and become a leading nation in sustainable geotourism and science. We aim to encourage locals to become more independent of suppressing neighboring governments, and shape their own future while keeping traditions and staying in balance with nature.
