The Geological Society is carrying out a project to assess the geological heritage of the Issyk-Kul region. The project aims to create a UNESCO Geopark south of Lake Issyk-Kul. The project is supported by the South Shore of Issyk-Kul Destination.
The objectives of the project are to study and describe the objects of geological heritage located on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, as well as geological monuments located in the foothill part of the Terskey Ala-Too ridge. The creation of a UNESCO Global Geopark will contribute to the sustainable development of local communities, the preservation of natural and cultural heritage and the development of ecological tourism.
The research results will form the basis for the formation of a nomination Dossier for submission to the UNESCO Global Geoparks network.
