New Academic Programs in Geoheritage and Geoparks Launched in Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz Mining and Metallurgical Institute of the State Technical University has taken an important step in advancing modern geological education. As part of ongoing efforts to develop geoparks, preserve the geological environment, and promote sustainable regional development, new academic programs have been officially opened.

Starting in September 2026, the Institute plans to launch training in the following areas:

Master’s Degree — Field 630100 “Applied Geology,” program “Geoheritage and Geoparks of Mountainous Countries”;
Bachelor’s Degree — Field 520300 “Geology,” profile “Geoheritage and Geoparks.”

The new programs will provide comprehensive training for highly qualified specialists capable of working in the fields of geoheritage research and conservation, geopark creation and management, development of geotourism, and implementation of sustainable and environmentally responsible natural resource practices.

With its unique mountainous landscapes and rich geological diversity, Kyrgyzstan offers a strong scientific and educational foundation for training a new generation of professionals. The programs will include modern scientific instruction, practice-oriented learning, and participation in international initiatives related to geoheritage.

September 2026 will mark the starting point for a new generation of geologists capable of integrating science, ecology, and economics into a unified national development strategy.
